“The water was still, and the starlight glistened off the water perfectly. The men on the raft now began to row the wooden paddles moving us slowly further out to sea. I remember seeing the coastal line getting further away until I nodded off to sleep next to my Mom. On the morning hours of May 1, 1991, I woke up in the middle of the ocean.”
Picture it: A tiny raft, fashioned from little more than dreams and determination, drifting across the vast expanse of the ocean. Eight-year-old me, leaving behind the only home I had ever known in Cuba, on a daring voyage to the unknown shores of the United States. This is where my journey on, ‘Six Days on a Paper Boat,’ begins – a story of childhood innocence, resilience, boundless courage, hope and the unbreakable spirit of an immigrant child.
In this blog, I’ll be delving deeper into the behind-the scenes moments, the personal reflections, and the emotions that breathe life into my memoir. Join me as I unravel the pages of my past and share the unforgettable journey that led to the creation of my book, one blog post at a time.
What a great beginning! 😎
